The SDML provide diagnostic services to the population of Samoa for timely screening, and referral for early diagnosis and treatment, meeting the needs and expectations of both patients and the health service providers.

This will be achieved through:

•  Establishment of a fully functional laboratory that will be equipped with Fully automatic Liquid- Based Cytology machine, DNA Extractor/HPV analyser, Urine analyser, IVD diagnostic Machine,

Biochemistry analyser, Auto Hematology Analyzer, Serology kits, water distiller, Slide Storage

Cabinet, Digital imaging Microscopes, Biological Safety Cabinet, server & IT infrastructure.

•  Providing diagnostic capability as follows:

○ Liquid based Cytology tests to capture abnormal cells leading to birth defects and abnormal cells that could lead to cervical cancer

○ Human Papillomavirus (HPV) test for cervical cancer screening

○ In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) tests - Sepsis, Thrombosis, Heart Failure, Myocardial Infarction, Liver Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Tumour Markers, Diabetes Mellitus, Renal Injury, Proximal Renal Tubule Dysfunction, Fertility, Thyroid Malfunction and COVID-19

○ Biochemistry tests* - Kidney, liver, lipids, pancreas functions

○ Hematology tests - Red blood cell (RBC)*, white blood cell (WBC)*, haemoglobin, and platelet counts, as well as haematocrit levels to test RBC distribution width, Mean corpuscular volume, Mean corpuscular haemoglobin, Mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentrations, WBC differential count in percentage and absolute value, Platelet distribution width, Platelet mean volume, Large platelet cell ratio, and Platelet criteria.

○ Serology Tests - Prostate cancer, - ovary, colon, lungs, thyroid and liver, chlamydia antigen, gonorrhoea Ag, HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis A, and Syphilis test
